Berlin, July 5th 2017 – At Fashion Week Berlin 2017, ElektroCouture, the fashion technology house based in Berlin, presents the Parallax Dress developed in collaboration with Formlabs, creator of powerful 3D printing systems.
The Parallax Dress merges new intelligent technology with complex evolutionary behavior and makes us rethink intelligence in our digital age. The design concept is based on the unique nervous system of an octopus. The octopuses’ control center extends into all eight limbs, allowing the arms to move autonomously, which gives it specialized problem solving abilities. Microcontrolling mechanisms within the dress make the individually controlled arms interact with the environment by detecting movement through infrared sensing technology. Formlabs‘ high-resolution SLA 3D printing powered the complex structural casing for the electronic and mechanical components.
Taking fashion tech, wearables and technology to the next level, TheStudio by ElektroCouture and Formlabs collaborated on an innovative design using SLA 3D printing.
“Machines become more aware of their environment through arti cial intelligence. Self-learning systems and the integration of autonomous machines let us explore technology from a new perspective”, said Lina Wassong, Creative Technologist at ElektroCouture and designer of the Parallax dress.
“The Parallax Dress incorporates high-resolution 3D printing with machine learning and arti cial intelligence”, said Michael Sorkin, General Manager of Formlabs EU. “It’s technology that aims to imitate an organic surrounding”.
The dress will be on display at Fashion Tech Berlin (Kühlhaus, Wednesday, July 5th 2017, 10-18H) and at Open Studio Day @ ElektroCouture’s HQ (Tempelhofer Ufer 17, Thursday, July 6th 2017, 14-17H).
Formlabs designs and manufactures powerful and accessible 3D printing systems for engineers, designers, and artists. Their agship product, the Form 2 3D printer, uses stereolithography (SLA) to create high-resolution physical objects from digital designs. Headquartered in Boston with o ces in Germany, Japan and China, the company was founded in 2012 by a team of engineers and designers from the MIT Media Lab and Center for Bits and Atoms.
Since 2014 ElektroCouture has established itself as the world’s rst agency to pioneer bespoke innovative electronic wearable technology for the fashion industry. Through working with major companies ElektroCouture has now a rich experience and expertise in fashion technology. CEO and Founder of ElektroCouture Lisa Lang managed to turn around the fashion and technology industry by connecting these two niches together.
